The latest issue of Complex Machinery is out.
After a brief detour (cough rogue bot breakout cough) I'm wrapping up the AI Risk Weather Report -- my snapshot of the upside opportunities and downside risk exposures in the AI space.
The Weather Report is a departure from my usual newsletter style. It's more of an industry analyst's take than an essay, or an explanation of recent news.
It's also a foundation document that I plan to refer to quite a bit going forward.
The first installment covered the upside opportunities in AI. This time around I get to the downside risk exposures. And there are ... quite a few. Across a wide array of categories.
The big picture? It's not all sunshine and roses. Nor is it all gloom-and-doom. But AI's upsides and downsides are imbalanced. That imbalance is even more pronounced when you consider the time/money/effort that's gone into it.
Point being: genAI needs to make up a lot of ground if it's going to be worth the trouble. And right now that's not looking good.
